Sustainability  Transport

Whilst the UK's carbon emissions need to fall by at least 80% by 2050 according to Friends of the Earth, road transport is forecast to rise by a further 18% between now and 2020 and air traffic by over 50% between now and 2030, according to the Department of Transport. Transporting materials by lorry, ship and plane can greatly compromise the savings in energy made by choosing sustainable materials, so it goes without saying that buying materials as local as possible whenever the option is available is better all round.

Vans and cars are part and parcel of the landscaping industry as there as so many tools and materials to carry around. However, we use a car club, Street Car, for nearly all trips that require a car or van. Street Car has already taken over 20,000 privately-owned cars off the UK's streets and is aiming to prevent the emission of around 50,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next 2 years.

On journeys that do not require a car we use public transport or our bicycles.
